Other Lakes

Twin Lakes
Twin Lakes is actually a chain of three lakes located in the Mammoth Lakes Basin.  Back in the 1930’s fishermen transplanted aquatic weeds from Hot Creek in hopes of improving habitat and to this day the lakes are susceptible to chokingly thick weed growth late in the summer.  However, these weeds are an excellent facilitator to the intense damsel fly & callibaetis mayfly hatches that we as anglers and fish enjoy.

If you are an avid float tuber or just want to get started, Twin Lakes can be a fantastic place to be with a fly rod in hand.  The Twin Lakes are breathtakingly scenic yet not intimidating in size with close proximity to the shoreline.  The lakes are conducive to many float tube techniques like stripping sinking lines to imitate damsels, leeches & baitfish, dry fly fishing callibaetis imitations or even using “stillwater nymphing” techniques similar to Crowley.

Bridgeport Reservoir
The town of Bridgeport CA has some impressive trout water right out its back door.  The East Walker, West Walker and the Twin Lakes (different than Mammoth T.L.) has produced state record brown trout.  But for fly fishers, the Bridgeport Reservoir is a must visit.

It is similar to Crowley Lake in water chemistry, aquatic insect hatches and tremendous weed growth.  We utilize a lot of the same techniques and fly patterns as those used on Crowley.

There is less shoreline access here than Crowley so a boat is an effective method of covering water to get to the fish.  The Bridgeport Marina operates a shuttle service for float tubers.
