The Upper Owens River
The Upper Owens is now open to fishing all year around. Please note there are special regulations during certain times of year.
Another one of our fine spring creeks in the area, the Upper O. is a gem of a fishery. Miles and miles of twisting and meandering bends with deep undercut grassy banks typify this classic meadow stream. Most of the river is without trees or bushes allowing anglers to focus on the fishing and less of the snagging of rogue tree limbs and the like. With a solid host of large resident fish, the Upper O. also entertains big spawning runs of large trout which migrate out of Crowley Lake each spring and fall.
The Upper Owens is easily accessed by vehicle. Furthermore, it is close to town which allows for a quick getaway for the morning or evening hatch. There are a few private ranches (some are fishing ranches) but most of the Upper Owens banks are in control of the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power. The LADWP allows free access to all portions of the river making for a lot of fishable water.
