The West Walker
The West Walker is open to fishing the last Saturday in April to November 31st. It consistently experiences major run-off events in the late spring which can be of interest to white water fanatics.
With its close proximity to the highway, the lower reaches of this river rely heavily on “put & take” hatchery trout as there are no special regulations or “fly fishing” only sections. There are miles of fantastic pocket water and large pools that will entertain anglers throughout the day.
I really enjoy fishing the upper headwaters of the West Walker River. There are miles of stream that can only be reached the “old fashioned way”…hiking. Punctuated by undercut banks and beaver ponds the upper reaches of the West Walker River are a backcountry meadow stream lovers delight. Wild rainbows and brookies will be the quarry of the day with dry flies on their menu always.
